More information about Reserve Syrah - DeMorgenzon

The multi-award winning Reserve Syrah from the Coastal wine region shows in the glass in dense purple. With some side lay, the red wine glass reveals a charming garnet red hue at the rims. After the initial swirl, this red wine reveals a high density and richness, evident in distinct church windows at the rim of the glass. The nose of this Coastal red wine charms with nuances of plum, prune, violet and mulberry. If we trace the aromatics further, cocoa bean, oak and black tea are added, encouraged by the oak influence.

On the palate, DeMorgenzon's Reserve Syrah starts off pleasantly aromatic, fruit-driven and balanced. There are dry and really dry. This red wine belongs to the latter group, as it was vinified with just 1.6 grams of residual sugar. On the palate, the texture of this powerful red wine is wonderfully dense. Due to its present fruit acidity, the Reserve Syrah reveals itself wonderfully fresh and lively on the palate. In the finish, this matured red wine from the Coastal wine region finally inspires with beautiful length. There are again hints of lilac and black currant. In the aftertaste, mineral notes of the soils dominated by granite and weathered rock join in.

Vinification of the DeMorgenzon Reserve Syrah

This red wine clearly focuses on one grape variety, Syrah. Only premium grape material was used for this exceptionally powerful single varietal wine from DeMorgenzon. The grapes grow close to the sea in the Coastal Region. The vines here dig their roots deep into soils of granite and weathered rock. Due to the mitigating influence of the nearby sea, the grapes ripen more slowly and develop more aromatic partiality. When the perfect physiological ripeness is ensured, the grapes for the Reserve Syrah are harvested exclusively by hand without the help of coarse and less selective full harvesters. After the harvest, the grapes reach the press house by the fastest route. Here they are sorted and carefully broken up. Fermentation follows in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. Vinification is followed by aging on the fine lees for several months before the wine is finally drawn into bottles.

Food recommendation for the Reserve Syrah from DeMorgenzon

This red wine from South Africa is best enjoyed at a temperate 15 - 18°C. It is perfect as an accompanying wine to veal boiled beef with beans and tomatoes, vegetable couscous with beef meatballs or braised chicken in red wine.
