More information about Barthenau Vigna S. Urbano Pinot Nero Südtirol DOC - J.Hofstätter
The Barthenau Vigna S. Urbano Pinot Nero Pinot Noir Alto Adige DOC from J. Hofstätter has a deep, dark red color in the glass. The bouquet is somewhat restrained at first, but gradually opens up to reveal multi-layered, complex Burgundy aromas. The typical aromas of sour cherries and raspberries unfold on the nose, underlined by nuances of vanilla and fine spicy notes. On the palate, this Pinot Noir from South Tyrol displays a remarkable aromatic concentration, very well-integrated tannins and elegant acidity complement each other perfectly. The finish is very long, dense and persistent.
Vinification of the Barthenau Vigna S.Urbano Pinot Nero Alto Adige by J.Hofstätter
The Barthenau vineyard near Mazon is located at an altitude of 450 meters above sea level, where the single vineyard Vigna Sant'Urbano, the highest quality cru vineyard of the J.Hofstätte winery, is located. The vineyard is on a gentle slope and the soil consists of a conglomerate of clay, limestone and porphyry. The Pinot Noir grapes for this top-class and rare wine grow here on vines that are sometimes more than 65 years old.
After manual harvesting, most of the grapes are lightly crushed and destemmed, while 25% are left intact in the fermentation barrel. A short, cool maceration takes place to refine the fruit bouquet, after which the wine ferments for around 10 days, during which the must is constantly kept in contact with the solid grape components. The wine is matured in two phases: 12 months in small oak barrels, followed by 8 months in large wooden barrels. Finally, after bottling, the wine is stored for a further 8 months in the Barthenau winery's cellars.
Only the "Vigna" classification in South Tyrol indicates the origin of a single-vineyard wine.
Recommendation for the Barthenau Vigna S.Urbano Pinot Nero Alto Adige by J.Hofstätter
